Fall arrest, restraint or work positioning?
| Fall arrest | Restraint | Work positioning | |
|---|---|---|---|
| What it does | Stops a fall safely once it happens | Stops the user reaching a fall edge | Holds the user in place, hands free |
| Typical kit | Full body harness + shock absorbing lanyard | Harness + fixed-length restraint lanyard | Work positioning belt + adjustable lanyard |
| Choose when | A fall can't be prevented | The edge can be kept out of reach | The user must lean into the work |
Fall arrest systems need enough clearance below the user for the lanyard to deploy. Always check the product's instructions.

Common questions
If your question isn't here, give us a ring on 0161 627 0022.
Is Trans-Web height safety equipment made in the UK?
Yes. Harnesses, lanyards and anchor slings are sewn and assembled at our factory in Oldham, where we have been since 1987.
What is the difference between fall arrest and restraint?
A restraint system stops the user reaching a point where they could fall. A fall arrest system safely stops a fall once it has happened, using an energy absorber to reduce the force on the body.
When should I use a twin leg lanyard?
A twin leg lanyard lets the user stay connected at all times while moving between anchor points, by clipping one leg on before unclipping the other.
Can you make lanyards and kits to our specification?
Yes. Tell us the length, number of legs, hooks, webbing colour or branding you want, and we will make it up. We can also put kits together for your teams.
Do you supply trade and wholesale customers?
Yes. We work with distributors, hire companies and contractors, and can set up regular repeat orders.
