Trans-web welcomed into WAHSA
Oldham, Lancashire: Trans-Web Limited, the British manufacturer and supplier of safety equipment for working at heights based in Oldham, has reached a major milestone in its history, having recently been accepted as a member of the Work at Height Safety Association [WAHSA].
WAHSA was formed in 2005 to represent the interest of manufacturers, assemblers, installers, distributors and end users of personal protection equipment used for work at height and for rescue; it is perceived to be the leading UK association for this sector. It sets a benchmark in high standards for the manufacture of members’ products and takes a leading role in setting standards and codes of practice for the use of such products.
Applicants for membership of WAHSA must fulfil demanding criteria before being accepted. To qualify companies must show that they control the production of height safety equipment at every stage, from raw materials through to testing and certification. Over recent years, Trans-Web has become a well-known and respected supplier and manufacturer of a wide range of lifting products, safety harnesses and fall arrest equipment with a reputation for manufacturing excellence and superb customer service. WAHSA found that the company qualified for membership on all counts.
“We are all very proud of our achievement,” comments Lee Wrigley from Trans-Web. “This is a feather in our cap. Recognition of excellence by one’s peers is something we all covet, and membership of WAHSA has achieved that recognition, not only from them, but from the people who are seen to uphold and regulate the standards within the industry.”
Trans-Web products are used widely in a range of international industries including transport, construction, marine and offshore engineering. The company, a member of the Resolute Corporate Holdings Limited, a family-owned holding company that includes other textile based manufacturing businesses, offers quality products at competitive prices.
Trans-web Round Slings, the Bigger the Better
Oldham, Lancashire: Well-known British manufacturer of round and flat webbing slings, and height safety equipment, Trans-web is extending the size and capability of its round sling range to accommodate more demanding applications. Based in Oldham, Lancashire, Trans-Web is an established leader in the design and manufacture of textile lifting and lashing systems and personal protection equipment when working at heights.
The enhanced range is manufactured by the company in the UK, and designed with a lifting capacity up to 100 tonnes in weight. They can be produced up to 36m in circumference on newly installed machinery.
Like all Trans-web’s slings, the new large round sling range is manufactured from 100% high tenacity polyester yarn. This, together with its heavy duty, high quality non-load bearing sleeve, enables these large slings to deliver a remarkably high strength-to-weight ratio. They are light, flexible, twist and kink resistant, and have the ability to absorb shock loads, within the usual safety constraints. Because the slings have been designed to wear evenly along their full length, they deliver, like all other Trans-web products, a longer life-span.
“Our large round slings are ideal for choke lifting cylindrical objects,” says Trans-web’s Lee Wrigley. “They also offer flexibility for the user, providing a wide choice of lifting modes, and the polyester sleeve offers a significant degree of protection when lifting smooth objects without causing damage. All our products are fully tested, and the large round slings are no exception, being certified to current standard BS EN 1492-2:2000 + A1:2008. This gives them the full safety factor of 7.1.”
Each sling is individually labelled and numbered with fully encapsulated, reinforced labels providing clear indication of all relevant safety details.
Trans-Web products are used widely in a range of industries throughout the UK and abroad including transport, construction, marine and offshore engineering, offering quality products at competitive prices. It is a member of the Resolute Corporate Holdings Limited, a family-owned holding company that includes other textile based manufacturing businesses.
Trans-web is flying the flag for Britain
Oldham, Lancashire: as an established company with a UK manufacturing facility, Trans-web has redesigned its logo to reflect its thoroughly British status. By incorporating the Union Flag into the logo, the company’s new image is flying the flag for Britain.
Committed to quality and reliability, Trans-web has earned its place as one of the UK’s market leaders in the manufacture of textile lifting and lashing systems and personal height protection. Offering quality and competitive prices, its products are widely used in a range of industries throughout the UK and abroad including transport, construction, marine and offshore engineering.
“We are tremendously proud of what we have achieved,” says Lee Wrigley from Trans-web. “Our policy is to manufacture high quality products to meet the increased demand for safety in both the national and international markets. We operate a specialist service, tailored to meet individual requirements, and we felt that our logo should reflect our ‘Britishness’ – hence the incorporation of the Union Flag.”
Trans-web’s success has been achieved by using highly skilled staff and the latest machinery, with a total commitment to customer service. It is enabling the company to expand its product range and explore new markets.
Lee finishes by saying: “Twenty years of experience, a dedicated workforce, and a new ‘British’ logo, are excellent building blocks to help us build an even stronger company for the future.”
Trans-web nets a winner!
Oldham, Lancashire: by virtue of its flexible working practices and ability to respond quickly to customer demands, Trans-web Limited recently won a contract for (and has already delivered) the biggest net it has ever produced. The order came from a company whose existing supplier was unable to fulfil this important contract.
Based in Oldham, Lancashire, Trans-Web is an established UK supplier of specialist lifting products, safety harnesses and fall arrest equipment with a reputation for manufacturing excellence and superb customer service. As a recognised leader in the design and manufacture of textile lifting slings including round and webbing slings, lashing systems and load restraints, it was well placed to step into the breach and supply the required product to its customer.
The product in question was a cargo net for use on a grain-carrying boat. The net is stretched over a tarpaulin to hold it down; the tarpaulin in turn covers and protects the cargo. Trans-Web manufactures nets to its own specification, used mainly for lifting lorries or cars. However, producing this very large net involved working closely with the customer on the technical specification.
“Knowing that the customer had already been kept waiting for several weeks by its former supplier, we pulled out all the stops to turn the order round quickly,” says Lee Wrigley from Trans-Web. “We were able to deal with it straight away, and managed to complete the job within three days.
“On the back of our success, we have already fulfilled an order from the same company for a number of harnesses, and we are well-placed to become the customer’s future preferred supplier of nets and other safety products.”
Trans-Web products are used widely in a range of industries throughout the UK and abroad including transport, construction, marine and offshore engineering, offering quality products at competitive prices. It is a member of the Resolute Corporate Holdings Limited, a family-owned holding company that includes Structure-flex Limited of Melton Constable, one of the UK’s most successful manufacturers and suppliers of bulk packaging solutions and vehicle curtains.
Trans-Web on the track!
Oldham, Lancashire: Trans-web was the last link in a complex chain that involved lifting a hiab vehicle, first onto a London railway bridge to carry out a project, and at the end of it, to safety on the ground. Based in Oldham, Lancashire, Trans-Web is a recognised leader in the design and manufacture of textile lifting and lashing systems and personal protection equipment when working at heights; its expertise was certainly necessary on this occasion.
The chain began with Balfour Beatty, which had contracted Gatwick Plant Group, a company that provides turnkey solutions for airport, rail and other industry, to lay slabs along the railway track over the entire length of Blackfriars Bridge. The most practical way of getting the job done was to lay the slabs from the back of a hiab lorry, which in itself posed a problem – how to get the lorry on and off the bridge. The only practical solution was to lift it, which was where Fairview Lifting Gear Services (FLGS) entered the picture to provide a solution based on Gatwick Plant’s requirements.
FLGS has been trading for nine years and is a specialist within the lifting industry, being fully compliant to the ISO 9001 2008 standard. Operating from four depots in East London, East Anglia, Surrey and Middlesex, its highly experienced team offers an extensive range of equipment for both hire and sale, along with bespoke design calculation and full site surveys. It regularly uses Trans-Web to supply bespoke webbing slings.
Lee Wrigley from Trans-Web comments: “This was a rush job, which we virtually turned round in a day. We worked closely with Keith Livermore, the chief designer of Fairview Engineering (a division of FLGS), on the specifications of the nets, which we then manufactured.”
“At Fairview Lifting Gear Services, we have had a good working relationship with Trans-Web for many years,” comments Sam Warner, “and had no hesitation in calling in their expertise on this occasion. It was a job well done.”
